New unfair dismissal rules confirmed
The forthcoming changes to the qualifying period for employees wishing to claim unfair dismissal have recently been clarified by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The change which comes into effect on the 6th April 2012 will increase the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims to two years. It is currently one year. This will however only apply to employees who have started a new job on or after the 6th April 2012. Therefore employees who started a job before the 6th April will still only have to meet the current qualifying period of one year. This means that employees in a job currently should not be affected by the change to the qualifying period. The full regulations will be published shortly.
